Abu Dhabi is stricter than Dubai about dogs. Most public parks, beaches and malls have kept dogs out since a 2011 municipality ban, and we found no official change to that for parks or beaches. What you do have: a few fenced dog runs inside parks, a growing list of cafes that welcome dogs since the rules changed for restaurants in December 2025, and the Corniche, where even the 2011 ban let dogs walk on a leash. Your dog must be registered through TAMM, and in summer, walks happen at dawn and after dark. Checked in October 2026.

Dog parks

Al Khubeirah dog park, by the Corniche. The answer to “dog park Corniche”. A fenced run for dogs of all sizes, with a separate area for small dogs (up to 12 kg). Dogs must be at least six months old and vaccinated. Off the leash inside, on the leash outside. Reported as open 6 am to 10 pm, with a guard (The National, 2022).

Bark Park, Sheikha Fatima Park, Al Bateen. The first Abu Dhabi park with a dedicated dog area (Abu Dhabi Media Office). Fenced, with Crunch & Munch Cafe in the park welcoming dogs of all sizes. Opening hours vary between guides, so check before a late visit.

Al Masar Park, Khalifa City. Near Masdar, with a separate section for dogs, reported as open 6 am to 10 pm (Gulf News, 2024). Some of the newer Khalifa City parks also have off-leash dog areas.

Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital dog park, Sweihan Road. Agility equipment and paid training sessions, 6 am to 6 pm (Gulf News, 2024). Book ahead.

Some residential communities have dog areas for residents. Ask your community management.

Beaches

We found no public beach in Abu Dhabi where dogs are officially allowed. Some private beach clubs let dogs in at times, but these change by season, and some only allow dogs on a leash away from the water. Ask the club before you go. If you want a dog beach, the closest official ones are in Dubai.

Dog-friendly cafes

Since December 2025, licensed hotels and restaurants can choose to welcome pets, mostly in outdoor areas (Abu Dhabi Media Office). Places that welcome dogs, from The National’s January 2026 list and Yalla Abu Dhabi’s May 2026 list:

  • The Lighthouse, Yas Bay: dogs on the terrace
  • Art Market, Yas Bay: dogs on the terrace and inside
  • Mika, Yas Marina: shaded outdoor seating and water bowls
  • Stars ‘N’ Bars, Yas Marina: outdoor only
  • Coffee Architecture, Mamsha Al Saadiyat: outside tables
  • Localino, Al Raha Beach: outdoor terrace
  • Jones the Grocer, Al Muneera: shaded outdoor seating and water bowls
  • 25 Minutes to Tulum, Hudayriyat: dogs of all sizes, shaded seating
  • Nalu, Surf Abu Dhabi, Hudayriyat: dogs welcome from 8 am to noon
  • Crunch & Munch, Sheikha Fatima Park: dogs of all sizes

Call first: each place decides its own rules.

The rules

  • On a leash with a collar in public, by federal law. Abu Dhabi Municipality has said walking a dog off the leash in public can be fined at least AED 5,000 (Khaleej Times, 2019).
  • Not in most parks, beaches, pools or malls, unless the place has a signed dog area.
  • Banned breeds. The UAE bans pit bull types and several mastiffs, including the Cane Corso, Bullmastiff, Dogo Argentino, Tibetan Mastiff and Tosa. Our Dubai guide has the full list. Ask before you bring in a big breed.

Registration

All cats and dogs in Abu Dhabi must be registered through TAMM. Your vet does a health check, checks the microchip and submits the record using your UAE Pass (Gulf News, Jan 2026). Registration is free, the dog must be over 12 weeks and vaccinated, and the certificate lasts a year, until the vaccinations expire (Khaleej Times, 2025). Not registering can mean a AED 1,000 fine.

Heat

In summer, walk only early in the morning or late in the evening. Abu Dhabi vets suggest a 7-second test: put the back of your hand on the pavement, and if you can’t hold it there for seven seconds, it’s too hot for paws. Heavy panting, drooling, weakness or refusing to walk are early signs of heatstroke. Vomiting, collapse or confusion mean go to a vet now. Never leave a dog in a parked car (Aletihad, Aug 2026). More in heatstroke in dogs.
