The story
Why FurFam exists
"My father passed away in his last year of retirement. We never got to do it."
I wanted a dog since I was a kid. My father and I were both pet lovers. We just couldn't get one. The constraints were always there: money, space, and time. Everyone in the family was working. There was never a right moment.
So we made a plan. When my father retired, we'd get dogs. Not one, multiple dogs. That was going to be his retirement life. Me and him, at home, surrounded by dogs.
My father passed away in his last year of retirement. We never got to do it.
When Barfi came into my life, a golden retriever puppy, everything changed. She gave me a purpose to get out of bed every day. She'd look into my eyes and I'd just know: she's already hungry. That was enough. That was the reason to get up.
My social life changed completely. I had to plan every time I stepped out of the house, and more importantly, how soon I could come back. I always have to come back in time. No exceptions.
It brought discipline into my life. I started having food at proper times. And Barfi would always demand a 30% commission from my plate after gulping up her own food in a minute.
The thing is, a dog parent's life is very different. It's different because there are commitments. You can only relate if someone is in these shoes. Building connection is so much easier when the other person relates to this problem rather than someone who doesn't live it.
That's what made me want to build this. All of my experience (my background as a founder, building products, solving problems) made me realise there's something real here that nobody's solving.
