Are dogs allowed in Lalbagh?

Botanical garden · South-central Bangalore, by Basavanagudi and Jayanagar

Dogs: Not allowed

No. Pets are not allowed inside Lalbagh Botanical Garden. Reports describe a ban since at least 2015, and a state notification in November 2025 listed it again among 33 things not allowed in the garden.

Last checked 21 October 2026. Rules change, so read the board at the gate.

What the rules say

  • Pets are not allowed. A state notification from November 2025 lists 33 things not allowed in the garden, and Deccan Herald's report of it says "Entry of pets is also not allowed." (Deccan Herald, 20 Nov 2025)
  • It is not a new rule. The garden's deputy director said most of the listed rules already existed, and a 2015 report already describes dogs as banned at Lalbagh. (Deccan Herald, 20 Nov 2025; Deccan Herald, 4 Jun 2015)

Where to walk your dog instead

Cubbon Park, about 3 km north, allows dogs on a leash no longer than six feet, with no official dog hours. See Cubbon Park dog rules.
