Bangalore has a handful of pools just for dogs, mostly in dog daycares and cafes on the edges of the city. A session costs about ₹400 to ₹600 for an hour where prices are published. You’ll need to book, and your dog’s vaccinations need to be up to date. The lakes aren’t an option: none of the city’s tested lakes is clean enough for swimming. Here’s where to go and how to make a first swim go well.
Where to swim
Venus Pet Care, Banashankari (BSK 6th Stage). The clearest prices in the city. You get the whole pool for your dog, with a caretaker guiding it, and one of you can get in too. As listed on their pool page in October 2026: ₹499 for an hour on weekdays, ₹599 on weekends, ₹100 for each extra person, and a pack of ten sessions with two free. They call these introductory prices, so they may go up. Booking is a must; no walk-ins.
TherPup, Whitefield. The dog cafe on Kaithota Road has a pool, the “Bone Pool”, with instructors and life jackets for first-timers. Swimming costs extra on top of the ₹250 a person cover charge, which goes towards your food. Their rules are worth following anywhere: fully vaccinated against distemper, parvo and rabies, nothing to eat for two hours before, toilet done, no skin infection and no oil on the coat. They say a healthy dog may swim 10 to 30 minutes. More on TherPup.
Pups N Cups, Haralur. On Silver County Road near Parappana Agrahara. Staff-supervised lessons for new swimmers, free swim for confident ones, and water games, daily from 10 am to 4 pm (Pups N Cups). Vaccinations must be up to date, including kennel cough, and your dog must be free of fleas. No prices online, so ask when you book.
Aruani PetStop, Dommasandra. A daycare and boarding place between Sarjapur and Marathahalli that lists a pool for pets and their people, with seasonal pool days. Call for rates.
Others to ask about. DogNation near Bellandur, Wag-ville in Jakkur, Platinum Paws Paradise in JP Nagar and Chasing Tails in Mahadevapura all list swimming on directory sites. We couldn’t confirm their prices or whether the pools are running now, so call first.
Why not a lake?
In surveys of 149 Bangalore lakes from April to November 2025, every lake fell in the two lowest water classes, D and E, and none was fit for bathing, according to the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board’s data (News Karnataka, Feb 2026). The causes named were sewage, waste and industrial effluent. Lake rules also keep dogs to set hours and on a leash (see dog parks in Bangalore).
Still water also carries leptospirosis, which dogs catch from contaminated water or soil, and vets recommend the lepto vaccine for every dog (VCA). Check your dog’s card before a swim.
Not every dog can swim
Some dogs take to water straight away. Others never do. Flat-faced breeds like pugs and bulldogs find it hard work, and short-legged dogs struggle too, say vets at Texas A&M and the PDSA. For these dogs, and for any first-timer, use a dog life jacket. Never throw a dog into the water; let it walk in from the steps or the shallow end, and show it where the steps are so it can get out on its own.
Keeping a swim safe
- Stay with your dog the whole time, even a strong swimmer.
- Short swims with breaks. A dog that keeps grabbing a ball in the water can swallow too much. That’s water intoxication, which PDSA vets say shows as staggering, bloating, vomiting, drooling or glazed eyes, and can lead to seizures. Small dogs and dogs that swim with their mouths open are most at risk. Use a flat floating toy rather than a ball, and let your dog pee between swims.
- Carry fresh water. Pool and lake water isn’t for drinking.
- Rinse and dry after. Rinse chlorine out of the coat with fresh water, and dry the ears and any skin folds well to help prevent infections (AKC).
Call a vet straight away if your dog staggers, vomits, looks bloated or collapses after a swim.
Swimming in summer
A swim is a good way to tire out a dog when it’s too hot to walk far. Keep sessions short, and go in the morning or evening so the drive there isn’t in the midday heat. If your dog gets heatstroke, see heatstroke in dogs for first aid. If you have a pug, read pugs in the Bangalore summer first.
