Ask these on the phone first, then again at the meet-and-greet, where you can check the answers yourself. For what a good answer looks like, we went by what Bangalore boarders publish about their own care, and by the UK government’s licence conditions for home boarders and kennels, which describe good boarding care in detail (we call them the UK guidance below). Everything below was checked on 20 October 2026. To choose between a home boarder, a kennel and a pet sitter, start with our guide to dog boarding and pet sitting in Bangalore.
Where your dog will stay
Can I see where my dog will sleep? A good boarder says “come and see”, is glad to show you round, and will want to meet your dog too. The American Kennel Club advises seeing the whole place before you choose (AKC). In a home, ask whether your dog gets its own room and whether it will be crated. In the UK guidance each family’s dogs get their own room and a crate is used for no more than 3 hours in 24, and PetStay.in, a Bangalore home-boarding site, asks the people who board dogs through it never to cage pets.
How many dogs will be there, and will they mix? Of two home boarders listed on Anvis, Paw Home Boarding in Devanahalli takes at most 2 dogs, in an apartment with a resident Cocker Spaniel, and Ceaser’s Home Boarding in RMV Extension takes 4 to 5. Cartman’s kennel in Koramangala doesn’t include play with other dogs at all. A good answer is a number, plus an introduction before dogs share space. In the UK guidance, dogs from different homes stay together only with every family’s consent, after a trial session that includes any resident dogs.
Who is there at night? A good answer: someone sleeps in the house, or a kennel has staff on site. In the UK guidance, home boarders don’t routinely leave dogs alone for more than 3 hours in 24, and kennels that meet the higher standard keep a member of staff on site at all times and check every dog at least once overnight. It isn’t right for your dog if the dogs are locked in for the night with nobody there until morning.
Daily care
How often will my dog be walked, and where? Cartman and both Anvis-listed home boarders list two walks a day. Ask whether walks stay inside the society or go out on the road, whether your dog stays on a leash, and how many dogs go out together. A good boarder asks you before walking your dog off the leash or with other dogs. The UK guidance asks for the family’s consent for both, and allows no more than 6 dogs on one walk.
What will my dog eat? A good answer: “send your dog’s food and we’ll keep your times.” A good boarder agrees the diet with you and brings in any new food gradually, as the UK guidance asks. Some boarders serve their own food, which suits some dogs: Cartman, for example, lists “chicken rice or Pedigree”, so ask what yours would get. If your dog eats something else, see what to pack for dog boarding.
Can you give medicines? A good boarder wants the doses written down, tells you when each one was given, gives medicines only with your say-so, and finishes every course as the vet directed, as the UK guidance asks.
How will I hear from you? The Anvis-listed boarders send photos and videos on WhatsApp daily or every other day, and PetStay.in asks the people who board dogs through it for daily updates. Agree how often, and that they’ll phone, not just message, if your dog is unwell.
When something goes wrong
Which vet would you use, and will you call me? The AKC suggests asking whether there’s a vet on staff or a local vet the kennel works with. Cartman has vets on site; Venus Pet Care in BSK 6th Stage arranges emergency vet visits “with client approval”. A good answer names a clinic and a 24-hour option. Tell them how much they can spend at the vet before calling you.
What happens if dogs fight? Venus Pet Care separates the dogs and gets both seen by a vet. Ask each boarder for their rule, and be honest about your own dog: if it guards food or has bitten before, say so.
Paperwork
Which vaccinations and tick treatment do you ask for? A good boarder asks to see the vaccination card before the first night, and the AKC advises choosing one that asks for vaccination records. All six Bangalore boarders and booking sites we checked ask for rabies and the combination vaccine, and half also ask for kennel cough: see vaccines for dog boarding for who asks for what, and how early to get the shots.
Getting there and changes of plan
What does pick-up and drop cost, and who can collect my dog? PawSpace lists pick-up and drop from ₹499 (PawSpace, checked Oct 2026), and PetStay.in charges by distance. If someone else will collect your dog, tell the boarder in advance: a good kennel hands a dog over only to someone you’ve confirmed, say the kennel operators who advised Whole Dog Journal.
What if my plans change? Policies vary. PetStay.in takes 50% upfront and refunds all of it more than 48 hours before the stay, half at 24 to 48 hours, and nothing after that. PawSpace says it currently charges no cancellation fee and reschedules for free. Ask about festival rates too: PawSpace’s are 25 to 30% higher (checked Oct 2026). Ask what happens if your plans change.
Before the first stay
Can we do a meet-and-greet or a trial stay? A good boarder will want one. The AKC says many kennels offer test runs and some require them. Both Anvis-listed home boarders start with a meet-and-greet session, and say it doesn’t guarantee a place. A trial night helps too: the UK’s higher standard asks home boarders who take several dogs for an overnight trial stay before any stay longer than 3 nights.
Signs it isn’t right for your dog
- You can’t see where your dog will sleep.
- Nobody asks for your dog’s vaccination card.
- They can’t name a vet.
- Nobody is there at night.
- Your dog will share space with dogs it hasn’t met, with no introduction.
