Last checked: 22 October 2026. Every rule below links to the order or news report it comes from. We found few published dog rules for Hyderabad’s parks, and the board at each gate is what the guards follow, so read it when you arrive.
The short answers
- Is there a dog park in Hyderabad? Yes: the GHMC Dog Park in Kondapur, often called the Gachibowli dog park (The Hindu, 19 Sep 2018), opened in October 2018 (Business Standard, 19 Oct 2018). The latest report we found, from October 2024, said it was getting new play equipment (Deccan Chronicle, 16 Oct 2024). We couldn’t confirm it’s still open, or its current timings and fee.
- Are dogs allowed in KBR Park? On the walking track, only licensed dogs, under a GHMC order from June 2025 (Deccan Chronicle, 4 Jun 2025). For the national park inside, run by the Forest Department, we found no published dog rule.
- Are dogs allowed in Sanjeevaiah Park, Lumbini Park or NTR Gardens? We couldn’t find a rule either way. The HMDA’s own pages for these parks don’t mention dogs (HMDA), so ask at the gate.
- Do I need a licence for my dog? In the GHMC area, yes: officials said in October 2025 that pet registration is compulsory (Times of India, 10 Oct 2025).
- Do I have to pick up after my dog? Yes. In October 2026 the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation told dog parents to carry bags and bin the waste (Hyderabad Mail, 14 Oct 2026), and it plans fines of up to ₹1,000 if reminders don’t work (Times of India, 21 Oct 2026).
GHMC Dog Park, Kondapur (the Gachibowli dog park)
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) built the park on a small dump yard near the Radisson Hotel. Reports place it in Kondapur or in Gachibowli; the minister’s own post said Kondapur. It was billed as India’s first dog park, and KT Rama Rao, then the state’s municipal minister, said the Kennel Club of India had certified it (The News Minute, 10 Sep 2018).
It covers 1.3 acres (some reports say 1.2) and cost ₹1.1 crore. When it opened it had (Deccan Chronicle, 16 Sep 2018):
- A walking track and off-leash areas
- Separate enclosures for big and small dogs
- A splash pool, two lawns, and dog training and exercise equipment
- An amphitheatre and a clinic
A children’s play area and an open gym were added in November 2019, and dogs aren’t allowed in the children’s area (NewsMeter, 25 Nov 2019). In October 2024 Deccan Chronicle called it the city’s only pet park and reported new equipment going in, such as a tunnel castle and a bridge ramp.
- Entry: in 2018 the GHMC set the fee at ₹10 per dog per visit (The Hindu, 15 Sep 2018), and an official said visitors pay for a ticket too (The News Minute). We found no newer price.
- Vaccination: Dr Abdul Wakeel, a vet who worked on the park, said vaccination is mandatory for dogs that visit (The Hindu, 19 Sep 2018). Carry your dog’s record.
- Timings: we found none published. Read the board at the gate on your first visit.
- Who runs it now: it was the idea of D. Harichandana, then the GHMC’s zonal commissioner for Serilingampally (Times of India, 10 Sep 2018). In February 2026 the state split the GHMC into three corporations (Telangana Today, 11 Feb 2026), and Serilingampally was reported to be going to the new Cyberabad corporation (Deccan Chronicle, 7 Feb 2026). We couldn’t confirm which one runs the park now.
The GHMC spoke in 2018 of a second dog park in the east of the city (Deccan Chronicle), and Dr Wakeel of one in Secunderabad (The Hindu). We found no report that either was built.
KBR Park: licensed dogs only on the walking track
On 3 June 2025 the GHMC commissioner, R.V. Karnan, ordered that only licensed pet dogs be allowed on the walking track at KBR Park in Jubilee Hills, after complaints from morning walkers and elderly people about aggressive or unattended dogs (Deccan Chronicle, 4 Jun 2025). He told officials to enforce it strictly (Siasat, 3 Jun 2025).
The GHMC looks after the walking track; the main park is managed by the Forest Department (Deccan Chronicle). We found no published Forest Department rule on dogs inside the national park, so ask at the gate before you go in.
Keep your dog on a short leash there. In July 2026 an 8-foot python crossed the walkway inside the park, and Hyderabad’s District Forest Officer said pythons naturally move around the park (Telangana Today, 18 Jul 2026).
Necklace Road and the Hussain Sagar parks
Necklace Road, along Hussain Sagar lake, and the parks beside it, such as Sanjeevaiah Park, Lumbini Park and NTR Gardens, were developed by the Buddha Purnima Project, now part of the HMDA (HMDA). Its pages for these parks list timings and fees but say nothing about dogs (Sanjeevaiah Park, Lumbini Park, NTR Gardens), and we found no news report of a dog rule for any of them.
The one dog spot reported here is the Dogs Park on Necklace Road, next to Jalavihar. It began in 2013, when two Labradors met on a walk there and started playing. By 2016 dog parents were coming at sunrise and letting most of the dogs off the leash, and The News Minute called it the only park in Hyderabad that allowed dogs: “it is run by people” (The News Minute, 23 Jul 2016).
Puppy adoption drives were held there on Sunday mornings in 2021 (Deccan Chronicle, 11 Jan 2021; Telangana Today, 15 Nov 2021), and Siasat still listed a “Dog’s park” among things to do on Necklace Road in November 2022 (Siasat, 21 Nov 2022). We couldn’t confirm that dog parents still meet there.
Mind the road. The 2016 report says vehicles move fast on Necklace Road, and one regular’s Labrador was hit by a two-wheeler as he was entering the park. Keep the leash on until you’re well inside.
Neighbourhood and colony parks
We found no published city rule on dogs in Hyderabad’s colony parks. In 2016 The News Minute wrote that most parks in Hyderabad don’t let dogs in, because the staff fear dogs or worry about keeping the park clean. In 2018 GHMC officials said people had complained about dogs not being allowed in general parks (Deccan Chronicle, 16 Sep 2018).
The Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI), the statutory board under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, tells housing societies that “seeking to ban pets from gardens or parks, is short-sighted” and suggests agreeing dog timings instead; they can’t keep pets out of lifts either (AWBI guidelines, 26 Feb 2015). For public parks, in a 2016 letter to Delhi’s parks authority, the Board said leashed dogs walked by adults “will not therefore be banned”, and that parks can set reasonable dog hours instead (AWBI, 15 Nov 2016). We found no Telangana High Court ruling on dogs in parks.
If your colony park has a “No pets” board, don’t argue with the guard. Raise it with your corporation’s ward or circle office instead.
Licence and poop rules
Licence. In the GHMC area, officials said in October 2025 that pet registration is compulsory. An earlier rule asking for no-objection certificates from two neighbours has been dropped, but you still need your dog’s vaccination record (Times of India, 10 Oct 2025). The GHMC asks dog parents to register on the MyGHMC app, which it said in August 2024 was free (Deccan Chronicle, 17 Aug 2024); a 2022 report put the online fee at ₹50 (Telangana Today, 14 Sep 2022). In the new Cyberabad and Malkajgiri corporations, we couldn’t find how to register a dog: ask your corporation’s veterinary section.
Poop. Pick it up everywhere. The Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation, which covers the LB Nagar, Malkajgiri and Uppal zones, told dog parents in October 2026 to carry bags, collect their dog’s waste and put it in designated bins (Hyderabad Mail). A 2024 state instruction directed municipal corporations other than the GHMC to fine dog parents up to ₹1,000 when their dogs foul public places (Times of India, 21 Oct 2026).
Private dog parks
We found no private, paid dog park in Hyderabad with its own website giving its rules and prices, so we haven’t listed any. If you know one, or what the board says at a park we couldn’t confirm, tell us and we’ll add it.
What to carry
- A short leash, for KBR’s walking track and the road outside the Necklace Road dog area.

Park manners
The short version of our dog park etiquette guide:
- Ask before your dog greets another dog.
- Pick up every poop.
- Keep a female in heat at home.
- Keep a nervous or rough dog on a short leash, away from other dogs.
- If your dog bites a person or another dog, stay, share your number and show your dog’s rabies vaccination record. A bitten person should wash the wound with soap and water for at least 15 minutes and see a doctor (WHO). A bitten dog should see a vet.
